Obituary

Sandra Sheskin Brotman entered into her eternal rest peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, May 29, 2023. She is now experiencing fullness of joy having met her Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) face-to-face. Sandra, a matriarch in the Messianic Jewish Movement, was full of life, passionate about her faith, and rarely missed an opportunity to share the love of Yeshua with others.

Born on March 18, 1942, she grew up in Washington, D.C. and later resided in Kensington, MD. She was the daughter of the late Herman Sheskin and Goldie Yofe of Poland. After graduating from Calvin Coolidge Senior High School, she was hand-picked by the US Department of State to lecture visitors about the Great Seal of the United States. In addition, she studied English and literature at George Washington University, the Bible and music at Washington Bible College, and voice at the Totoursky Academy of Music.

Sandra was one of the first female Messianic Jewish recording artists and loved singing songs about Zion and her Messiah. She also led many spiritually-oriented tours to Israel, Russia, Europe, and the Middle East and ministered in many countries, including Canada, Germany, South Korea, and Israel. For several years Sandra served as the Executive Vice President of the Messianic Jewish Movement International and later worked as a consultant to the organization. She was truly a pioneer of the Messianic Jewish Movement.

For many years Sandra was active in Ahavat Yeshua, a Messianic Jewish congregation in Washington, D.C. Throughout her life she tirelessly served the Lord, using her gifts as a singer, songwriter, Bible teacher, pro-life advocate, and writer. She wrote articles on Messianic Jewish topics and was interviewed numerous times on local and national TV and radio.

Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rabbi Manny Brotman and her brother, Gene Sheskin. She is survived by her stepsons, Nathan and Joel Brotman and by Joel’s wife Tammy as well as by her cousin, Gene Sheskin and his wife Sandra.

Sandra Sheskin Brotman will be greatly missed. She leaves behind a rich legacy born from her passion to share the love of Messiah Yeshua with Jews and Gentiles alike and from her love for Israel, for the unborn, and for those who serve in the armed forces. She also leaves behind a host of spiritual children and friends whom she dearly loved.
